I'm there NOW! The 'Haunted Camlin' ... The Camlin Hotel

Lovely Roaring Twenties elegance!

Feeling The Spirits move around me as I open my notebook and pen the first lines of my sixth Ghost Stories book... 'Losing Sight'. What better, more inspirational spot than The Camlin? Tonight?? Seattle Spooky Tours with my sissy-soo-soo sister. Nice, elegant, an inspiration for writers!

It is a shame you did not visit our basement. We have a wonderful display of photos and memorabilia of Camlin history. Next time you are in the neighborhood stop in and ask for me for the grand tour.

That's great that you actually have memories of the Cloud Room. Somebody should. What does it mean, you had tickets "to the Paramount"? Like season tickets?

Yes, Jim does quality work. I always knew he would. He took his time and he knew how to express common experiences using just the right iconic phrase or image, even in the films he made in Jr. High. He has probably sublimated the memory of climbing the pipe, and of the sting in our feet after we dropped 18 feet onto the torchdown roof of a cement portico in finding our way down. Jim was into the Talking Heads before anyone else I knew, and I remember him describing the song "Once in a Lifetime" for me. When he tried to push Shriekback on me I told him I didn't cotton to that New Wave stuff. We lost touch during college, and now he's an Oscar winner, so what are you gonna do?

A lovely story Matthew about one of my favorite hotels in Seattle. To this day I miss the Cloud Room with a physical ache- that was a regular stop for me and my pals in our late 20's and early 30's because it had the best piano bar EVER. We lingered in that courtyard on more than one occasion as well, if I recall correctly. I had tickets to the Paramount back then and it was a natural stop before (light dinner) and after (winding down with a few songs around the piano), both times soaking in the city view.
Jim-whose-last-name-shall-not-be-uttered (although he'd probably love it) has been involved in a few really good films that I hope your readers/friends have seen! I love that the young Jim was part of your whacky BHS climbing adventure- maybe someday he'll author a screenplay about his high school experiences and that "brush with death" will be featured....Hollywood style!
