Great Seattle Gargoyle Hunt #6

We go lion-hunting again for the sixth installment of the Great Seattle Gargoyle Hunt. I’d be inclined to rate this an easy one, but no one has yet even taken a wide swipe at the still unsolved GSGH #5, which I would have thought was very easy, so who knows? For rules of play see the first entry, here.

Where are these lions? Use the comments to submit your answer. Again, past winners play for love, not for limericks.

"Down on the corner where the cats hang out" was a lyric by the '80s band Timbuk 3. These corner cats are the subject of GSGH #6

    Ding!

Right you are, Issy, and exactly right. I don’t know what the name of this building is, but it’s on the northeast corner of Spring’s intersection with Second Avenue. It looks like the 1920s to me, and it was there in 1933. I should do a little research up at the library and find out more. Issy, your limerick is already formulating in my head. Congratulations and thanks for playing.

    Issy,
For the sake of a more interesting limerick, can you tell us how you found them? (I’d love to know why these lions would be recognizable to you — your daily commute, an occasional chiropractic appointment in the building, etc., and don’t worry — if you copied the pic and pasted it into facebook and asked all your downtown friends if they’d seen it, it still counts as a win. My wife Angela tried that with the last one, but no one knew it.)

Hi Matt! I find Second Ave. to be the fastest way to get across downtown from north to south, so I take it often. The lion with the unusual curtain pom pom thing seemed familiar so I checked my suspicion on Google street view and indeed. Thanks for the fun exercise.

Splendid hide-and-seek Matt. I’ll be passive about though and learn from others.
